<image:title>About - Hi, my name is Barbara. I have been an active and passionate dental hygienist since 1996. In 2014 I attended a lecture on Orofacial Myology. The intent was to learn more on the prevention of orthodontic relapse. Intrigued, it was then that I decided to pursue more information and take other courses. I completed a course through the IAOM (the only certifying association for hygienists) and in 2015 became the third Hygienist in Alberta to receive certification and my COM designation. My studies continue and consist of an advanced course in Orofacial Myology (OM) with Dr. Bob Mason and other related up-to-date course. I am enthusiastic about addressing Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders which are critical to complete patient care. In August of 2018 I opened the first independent Orofacial Myology office in Alberta.</image:title>

<image:title>About - Assist in the creation, restoration and the habituation of a normal and harmonious orofacial myofunctional (myo means muscle) environment. A Certified Orofacial Myologist (COM) is trained to evaluate and treat patients with a variety of orofacial myofunctonal disorders (OMD). Orofacial Myology is the critical missing link to complete patient care. A multi-disciplinary team approach including a dentist, orthodontist, ENT, speech language pathologist, or a medical doctor may be necessary. A COM is proactive in preventing major issues in the present and future.</image:title>
